Xbox CEO Avoids The Elder Scrolls 6 Exclusivity Question at Gamescom
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma avoided questions regarding whether The Elder Scrolls 6 will be an Xbox console exclusive during an interview at Gamescom.
When Xbox acquired Bethesda, questions regarding platform exclusivity circulated for years. While titles like Starfield launched as console exclusives before arriving elsewhere, and games like Fallout 76 and DOOM: The Dark Ages remained multiplatform, the exclusivity status of The Elder Scrolls 6 has never been clarified. Even with a new CEO, Asha Sharma, in charge, that remains the case following her recent appearance at Gamescom.
When asked by the BBC if The Elder Scrolls 6 being an Xbox console-exclusive was a priority, Sharma replied, “It’s a beautiful game.” Sharma noted that every platform needs exclusive experiences, while balancing business health, and pointed to upcoming titles like Gears [of War: E-Day] and Clockwork Revolution. Chief strategist Matthew Ball also denied rumors that Xbox was reversing course on its exclusivity strategy, while chief content officer Matt Booty advised fans not to overly fixate solely on single-player titles.
Although The Elder Scrolls 6 currently lacks a release date beyond its 2018 announcement trailer, Bethesda has stated that it remains its primary development focus and that recent layoffs have not impacted production. Sharma recently visited Bethesda’s offices—amid ongoing protests by laid-off workers—where she received a firsthand look at the game and praised its scale and grandeur as incredible.
