World of Warcraft: Forever introduces items that break 22 years of class and profession rules
Beta players are discovering new loot in Blizzard's upcoming WoW classic remake that fundamentally changes how the game works, from axes that let you mine without the skill to swords that enable melee mages.

World of Warcraft: Forever is introducing items that challenge foundational mechanics players have lived with for over two decades. As beta testers reach the level 20 cap, they're uncovering loot that breaks long-established rules about how classes and professions interact.
An axe dropping from Deadmines enemies allows players to mine ore 30 times without having the mining skill. Stacking multiple copies lets players run two crafting professions simultaneously, a luxury that was nearly impossible in the original 2004 game where most players chose one gathering and one crafting profession.
The Coldflame Saber, found in Shadowfang Keep, enables a "battle mage" playstyle that would have been unthinkable in classic WoW. The sword's unique bonus causes melee attacks to deal fire damage to frozen targets, letting mages fight in close range instead of staying at distance as the class was designed to do.
Blizzard intentionally hid many of these new items from dataminers to let players discover them organically. Recently discovered hidden books reward powerful rare items that boost leveling, suggesting the full game will be full of undocumented surprises at launch.
The design philosophy draws from Season of Discovery, a limited-time mode where breaking the game was the point. Mages could tank dungeons like warriors, and Blizzard is carrying that experimental spirit into Forever. A Cozy Sleeping Bag found in both modes stacks a 3% XP buff with cooking's 5% buff, giving players an 8% total increase that would horrify classic purists.
While Blizzard is keeping foundational aspects of WoW intact, the new items show areas where nothing is sacred. The full game launches November 4.
