Attendees at Blizzcon 2026 discovered a new gamepad option for World of Warcraft: Forever. The feature is currently in an alpha state, and the development team is actively seeking player feedback. This addition has fueled speculation among players that the popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game might eventually make its way to consoles following Xbox's acquisition of Blizzard.

Speaking with ScreenRant at the event, team members confirmed that World of Warcraft: Forever will feature Xbox controller support on PC at launch later this year. However, bringing official controller support to the modern Retail version of the game presents different challenges. Developers noted that Retail already utilizes controller support through community add-ons, but official out-of-the-box support for the main game requires answering numerous design questions regarding the large number of keybinds.

Developers emphasized that the accessibility benefits of controller support are clear, and they will pay close attention to how players react to the feature in World of Warcraft: Forever. While no official announcements have been made regarding a dedicated console port, the introduction of native controller support suggests that a console release could happen in the future, likely starting with Forever or Classic versions before any potential adaptation of the Retail version.
