The Wolf Among Us Remastered launches October 29 with fully rebuilt art and Noir Mode
Telltale's beloved detective noir adventure returns with enhanced character models, completely relit scenes, and a new black-and-white visual filter. The remaster honors the original while introducing Fabletown to a new generation.
Telltale's The Wolf Among Us Remastered releases October 29, bringing a comprehensive visual overhaul to the studio's celebrated 1980s noir detective series. The remaster rebuilds character art from scratch while preserving the story and directorial choices that made the original a fan favorite.
Matt Saia, game director of The Wolf Among Us Remastered and VP of Creative at Telltale, explained the remastering philosophy: "We wanted to honor the Telltale legacy. This is a classic title, and it needed a respectful update. We avoided touching the story, the directorial choices, and the overall art style, those are sacred to us."
The technical work required rebuilding the old Telltale engine to use the latest version developed for the Batman series. Every scene in the game was relit from scratch, a process that became necessary whenever any visual element changed. New shaders were created for effects like reflective bottles and moving objects such as the ghost ship. The team even built the entire Summer Games Fest trailer entirely within the engine.
Character models receive the most substantial improvements. All textures and models are new and multiple times more detailed than the originals, rebuilt from concept through high-end modeling to the final in-game version. Saia noted the balance required: "When you look at Bigby, he looks like Bigby. We wanted people to say 'That's the Bigby I remember', but if you go back and look at the original, the remastered one is unmistakably more refined." The werewolf form received particular attention, described as "ferocious, so much more feral and powerful than the original but still true to The Wolf Among Us."
A new Noir Mode presents the entire game in black and white, shifting the visual tone without altering gameplay. Saia previously added a similar feature to Telltale's Batman series but treated it differently here. "In Noir Mode, the shadows feel a little darker," he said, maintaining a pure film noir aesthetic rather than the color highlights used in Batman.
The remaster targets both longtime players and newcomers unfamiliar with Fabletown's neon-soaked detective story. Players can wishlist the game now ahead of the October 29 launch.
