Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons Story and Gameplay Showcased in New Trailer

Developer Invoke Studios and publisher Wizards of the Coast have provided the first look at the upcoming action RPG Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons with an extensive trailer running over eight minutes in length. Shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live, the footage introduces the title's story, open-world exploration, and combat systems while detailing the relationship between protagonist Kaatri and her otherworldly patron.

The narrative framing establishes Kaatri's connection to Tasha, an ancient witch queen who grants the protagonist power and seeks to maintain control over her. In the opening scenes, the patron casts a spell that turns Kaatri's right eye purple while the protagonist searches for someone dear to her. Exploring the open world within the setting of Darkon, Kaatri utilizes warlock powers that allow her to see raw magic. Players will travel with various companions and can customize Kaatri by tailoring the spells bestowed by Tasha to solve puzzles, navigate environments, and battle monsters.

Gameplay demonstrations highlight various magical abilities, including telekinesis and the capability to stick platforms to walls, alongside spellcasting used to clear obstacles before entering a local town. Upon arrival, the protagonist meets with derision from townsfolk who ring an alarm bell. Investigations lead Kaatri into a multi-floor cellar complex where innocent people are dragged below, featuring free-form, real-time combat that melds melee actions with magical abilities such as position-swapping. Returning to the surface reveals larger conflicts, including Drow teaming up with a larger creature to take over nearby farms.

Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is currently in development by Invoke Studios for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. The title is slated for an official release in 2027.
