Warhammer: Blood Bowl introduces Rumble Mode and updated rules in beta
The upcoming Warhammer: Blood Bowl features a new seven-a-side Rumble Mode, improved AI, and updated tabletop rules based on recent season updates.

Warhammer: Blood Bowl is shaping up to be a significant upgrade to the existing series rather than a completely new title. Recent beta testing has revealed several core changes, most notably the introduction of Rumble Mode, a faster-paced seven-a-side version of the game played on a smaller pitch.
Inspired by the tabletop Sevens format, Rumble Mode reduces each half to six turns instead of the traditional eight. Rerolls are twice as expensive in this mode, which increases the frequency of failed actions and speeds up gameplay. Unlike standard matches, Rumble Mode features a no man's land between teams at the start of the game, removing the initial line of scrimmage. This change prevents fragile teams from losing players immediately on the first turn. The smaller pitch also makes slow players less of a liability and increases the value of skills like Dodge.
The game also incorporates the third season rules update from the tabletop version. These updates include mechanics to discourage stalling, such as audience members throwing rocks at players who refuse to score. Players who avoid stalling can receive a 10,000 gold bonus at the end of a match. Additionally, the new Secure the Ball action allows a player to pick up the ball on a 2+ roll by sacrificing their remaining activation. Passing rules have also been adjusted to remove Wildly Inaccurate results and deflections, aiming to encourage more active ball movement.
Other quality-of-life improvements include the ability to save and quit during AI matches. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) selection process has been refined so that only nominated players can earn Star Player Points, preventing bench players from accidentally absorbing rewards. The user interface also features a personalized landing page and a player advancement screen that shows the percentage of other players who choose specific skills.
While the beta shows signs of improved AI behavior, such as better block selection and occasional passing attempts, the full impact of these changes remains to be seen. The upcoming full release is scheduled for the end of November, following a public playtest on Steam starting October 7.
