Level Recon fast in Wardogs by spotting enemies, not fragging

The Recon class demands patience and positioning. Unlock the Monocular early, spot enemies for your team, and wait for better rifles before pushing for kills.

Recon is one of Wardogs' slowest classes to level because it requires a specific playstyle disconnected from front-line combat. Like Driver and Pilot, progression demands discipline and positioning over raw firepower.

The fastest early path is straightforward: use Binoculars until you unlock the Monocular, then equip it and focus entirely on spotting enemies for your allies. Follow your squad, position yourself on high ground, and mark targets your team will eliminate. Spotting generates the bulk of your early XP.

Resist the urge to rely on the Scout Rifle early on. It's ineffective in combat, dealing no one-shot headshot kills and firing only single shots. The weapon is too slow and weak to sustain meaningful kills. Once you reach Level 5, switch to the SKS, which offers substantially better damage output while you continue spotting for your team.

Between spotting duties, search fallen enemies for Range Finders and stronger sniper rifles. Check rooftops and tower tops where weapons spawn on pallets. These drops provide the tools you need to transition from pure support to more active engagement.

Leveling Recon requires commitment to a support-first mindset. You won't rack up high kill counts, but you'll drive your team's success. Keep your position secure, maintain constant spotting pressure, and transition to aggressive sniping once you've equipped superior rifles.
