Warcraft 3: Reforged has received a major 3.0 patch alongside its new Forsaken Kingdom expansion. While the update brings bugfixes, a new graphics mode, and a doubling of the unit selection cap from 12 to 24, it also introduces controversial restrictions. Reforged now requires an active internet connection to play, even in singleplayer, and has completely removed local area network functionality. Blizzard did not provide a reason for these changes in the official patch notes.

Blizzard noted that LAN support and offline play remain available through the legacy Warcraft 3 client included with the purchase of Reforged. The company has published a Battle.net support page with instructions on how to install this legacy version. However, the changes arrive as a frustrating setback for an embattled remaster that previously worked to rebuild support from its fanbase. Always-online requirements continue to draw criticism due to potential internet outages and connection instability.

The removal of LAN support alters traditional tournament play and local gatherings that formed an essential part of the real-time strategy game's legacy. Although the 3.0 update aims to establish the definitive version of the 2002 game, these forced limitations complicate its reception. Players can review the complete patch notes directly on the Blizzard forums.
