Wane Explores Memory as Roguelike Battlefield in Archaeologist's Fractured Mind
Tactical roguelike Wane, revealed at PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, lets players navigate the deconstructed psyche of Declan Wayne through six distinct biomes representing different corners of his fading memory.

Wane, a tactical roguelike developed by Metis Creative, invites players into the mind of Declan Wayne, a fading archaeologist whose memories are fragmenting. The game transforms psychology into geography, with each biome representing a different section of his psyche that players must explore to confront his demons.
The game premiered at PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct with a trailer that showcases both visual and mechanical ambition. "I used to believe that memory makes a man," Wayne narrates. "Now I know, it can unmake one, too." The art style complements this thematic depth, drawing players into a world that feels cohesive and intentional.
Players assemble a party of three from six available adventurers to venture into Ravelle, the map of Declan's mind. Combat appears designed around impact and style. The trailer demonstrates a character firing magic projectiles with finger guns across distances and another wielding an oversized hammer delivering cinematic slam attacks with dramatic impact frames.
Wane operates on roguelike principles: expect repeated deaths as part of progression. Between runs, players return to Declan's shop to sell goods and prepare for the next expedition deeper into his fractured psyche. The structure hints at narrative revelation unfolding across multiple attempts.
Metis Creative, known as a tabletop publisher, is expanding into video game development with this project. A demo is scheduled for 2027, with no official release date announced yet. The game is available to wishlist on Steam.
