W4 Games Raises $18 Million in Series B Funding to Accelerate Open-Source Godot Engine

W4 Games has secured $18 million in a Series B funding round led by Tencent, bringing its total funding to $33 million to expand its international team and bolster the Godot game engine ecosystem.

W4 Games, the enterprise partner for the open-source Godot Engine, has successfully raised $18 million in a Series B funding round. Led by Tencent, the latest round also saw participation from OSS Capital, LUX, Naval Ravikant, and Tobias Lutke’s family office. This investment brings W4 Games’ total funding raised to date to $33 million. Founded by core Godot developers and contributors, W4 Games aims to provide commercial tools, cloud services, and professional support to help studios of all sizes build and ship video games using the permissive MIT-licensed engine.

Alongside the investment, W4 Games has signed a multi-year strategic partnership with Tencent to scale and bolster the Godot ecosystem in Asia. The collaboration will support go-to-market initiatives, localization, ecosystem support, advocacy, and market development across the region. According to W4 Games co-CEO Nicola Farronato, partnering with a strategic investor like Tencent provides a crucial path for expanding into fast-growing Asian markets such as China and Japan, which rank as the second-largest markets for active Godot users following the United States.

The newly acquired capital will directly support a 50% expansion of W4 Games' international team, with plans to add 10 to 15 full-time employees over the next 12 months. The remote-first company currently employs around 30 people globally. Furthermore, the funds will accelerate the development of W4's enterprise offerings to meet growing demand from major studios and developers adopting the engine. W4 Games highlights that Godot has experienced significant growth over recent years, noting data from SteamDB showing that the number of Godot-based games published on Steam grew by more than 50% year-on-year in both 2024 and 2025, with 1,262 titles released on the platform so far in 2026.

Engine creator and W4 Games founder Juan Linietsky emphasized Godot's emergence as one of the world's fastest-growing game engine technologies. Company analysis of Gamalytic data also indicates that the number of Godot games generating more than $1 million in annual sales has climbed from two to over 50 within the last three years. With additional momentum from popular events like the Global Game Jam and GMTK Game Jam—where Godot's share of submitted video games has reportedly grown from 10% to 50% since 2022—W4 Games continues to position the open-source platform as a leading alternative to proprietary game engines for enterprise-level projects.
