Recent VCT Americas matches sparked intense discussions across the global Valorant esports community when Masters London winner Leviatan failed to qualify for Champions Shanghai. Following a successful dark horse run by Loud in the Stage 2 Lower Playoffs Bracket, Leviatan was pushed out of qualification contention. This marks the first time an esports organization has won a Masters event and subsequently missed out on Champions in the same calendar year. The situation has divided fans and professionals, with some advocating for revised qualification rules and point distribution while others place the blame directly on Leviatan.

Leviatan entered VCT Americas Stage 2 with 15 VCT points collected from their second place finish in Stage 1 and their Masters title. However, the team needed a top two placement to secure a spot at Champions. During the Stage 2 Playoffs, NRG and G2 Esports secured deep runs, while 100 Thieves dominated the upper bracket. Loud subsequently defeated G2 Esports and NRG in Sao Paulo to secure second place in Stage 2, leaving Leviatan behind with 19 total points and missing out on the regional seeds.

Observers and professionals have pointed out various factors contributing to the outcome. Former Team Liquid coach Connor Blomfield noted that the Americas region is exceptionally competitive. At the same time, analysts criticized Leviatan's strategic choices during the Stage 2 Playoffs, where the team banned their best maps, Haven and Split, while experimenting with compositions before officially securing qualification. For instance, G2 Esports earned nine points for winning Stage 1 and winning group stage matches, whereas Leviatan received only eight points for their Masters London victory without extra rewards for their Swiss stage performance. Coach Hoc Wah Chong added that frequent meta changes and hectic schedules punish teams that perform well early in the season due to a lack of preparation time for new splits.
