Developer One More Level and publisher Lyrical Games have confirmed that upcoming souls-like game Valor Mortis will launch with a $40 price tag, a decision influenced heavily by a crowded autumn release schedule. In a statement, the team acknowledged that October is a difficult month for players on a budget. Sandwiched between a busy September and the November release of GTA 6, the developers evaluated how their title could stand out.

"We've had many discussions over the past year about the price of Valor Mortis," the creators wrote. They stated that the game features the quality, fidelity, and playtime of a 20-hour story to compete with full-price titles. However, due to high demand for player time and money, a lower price point was chosen. Lyrical Games boss Blake Rochkind explained that the $40 cost allows the title to serve as an additional purchase that players can easily add to their baskets alongside other major releases.

Valor Mortis is also launching day one through Xbox Game Pass. Rochkind noted that this strategy helps the title reach gamers who might have otherwise ignored it. In addition to the base game, a Deluxe Edition will be available featuring unique weapon skins and a major story expansion scheduled to arrive in 2027. Cosmetic packs will also release in the months following launch.

Set during the Napoleonic Wars, Valor Mortis introduces a first-person twist to the souls-like genre. Players control William, a revived Grande Armée soldier exploring European battlefields infested by monsters born from a mysterious plague-like substance. Originally scheduled for September 24, Valor Mortis will now launch for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 13.
