Valheim players looking to organize their storage rooms can customize their warning and storage signs using a built-in markup system that requires no mods. By utilizing specific HTML-style markup codes, players can change text colors, adjust text sizes, apply styles like italics or bold, and incorporate various Unicode characters directly into game signs.

Changing text colors involves using either standard six-digit hex values or specific color names. For instance, using color names requires removing the hash symbol and replacing it with color=, turning a red selection into a red sign. Standard color names supported by the system include red, green, blue, dark blue, navy, aqua, lime, yellow, orange, magenta, brown, maroon, purple, silver, grey, and white. Players can also consult a color code calculator from W3 Docs or Unity tables to find custom hex values.

Beyond colors, additional markup attributes allow for further text customization. Players can alter text size using recommended numbers between three and twelve, apply italics, bold text, add underlines or strikeouts, and adjust alignment to the left, right, or center. Line breaks can be added between words using specific formatting, and text can even be aligned to the top as supertext or bottom as subtext.

Signs can also be enhanced with Unicode characters, allowing for symbols representing arrows, hearts, stars, transport, tools, weapons, food, nature, weather, and miscellaneous items. Examples provided from the community demonstrate combining color, bold attributes, and symbols to label specific items like valuables, trophy chests, boss keys, food items, gear, and crafting materials. Players must keep sign text brief, as signs carry a fifty-character limit to prevent awkward text truncation.
