How to mine the petrified Gammeltroll in Valheim's Deep North biome

Players exploring Valheim's final biome, the Deep North, will encounter the Gammeltroll, a 30-foot tall rock monster that attacks with tree trunks and stomps close-range targets. When defeated, this mountainous menace turns into a statue known as a Petrified Gammeltroll. Standard pickaxes cannot damage the statue, but inside lies a critical new resource required to conquer the frozen biome.

Mining the petrified Gammeltroll requires resources from both the Ashlands and the Deep North. First, players must defeat the Ashlands boss, Fader, and build an Eternal Pyre at their base using the Fader Relic and 10 stone. The Eternal Pyre generates flying embers that players can collect. Next, players must hunt adult seals with whiskers in the Deep North to gather seal pelts. At a workbench, combining one ember and two seal pelts produces 10 ember charges.

Equipping and throwing these ember charges at the petrified Gammeltroll's ankles will destroy the statue. Throwing one charge at each ankle and running away before the explosion is enough to bring the statue down into a pile of rubble. Players should note that throwing ember charges at living Gammeltrolls is generally inefficient. Once the statue collapses, players can collect the resulting Petrified Tissue.

Petrified Tissue is extremely heavy, limiting how much a character can carry. Furthermore, it cannot pass through standard wooden portals, requiring stone portals instead. Taking the resource back to base and placing it into a blast furnace allows players to process the material further.
