Valheim 1.0 Update Launches Alongside Deep North Biome After More Than Five Years in Early Access
Valheim's 1.0 update has officially gone live after more than five years in early access, introducing the Deep North biome, over 40 new weapons, four new armor sets, and major technical optimizations.

Valheim's 1.0 update has officially arrived, pushing the Viking survival game into a fully graduated state more than five years after it first entered early access. The milestone release has driven a massive surge on Steam, securing a peak of 116,000 players in a single 24-hour window compared to roughly 26,000 users the day prior. Developed by Iron Gate Studios, the 1.0 release is anchored by the addition of the Deep North biome.
The extensive patch introduces over 40 new weapons, including fresh bombs and ammunition types, alongside four new armor sets, capes, trinkets, and tools. Players will also encounter more than ten new creatures, twenty food items, fresh crafting mechanics, and over 80 new construction pieces, alongside new music, events, achievements, and locations. Alongside these content additions, Iron Gate implemented a major optimization pass that includes a new graphics setting for draw distance, the Magica cloth system, rebalanced enemy spawn chances, and making all hair and beard styles available from the start.
Review sentiments, streaming numbers, and player engagement are climbing as players tackle the game's structured biome progression, which spans from the introductory Meadows and Black Forest all the way to the newly accessible Deep North. Full patch notes are available on the game's Steam page for players seeking a comprehensive breakdown of the dozens of bug fixes and tweaks included in the milestone launch.
