Smartly Dressed Games Releases Unturned Source Code on GitHub

Smartly Dressed Games has published the source code of the zombie sandbox game Unturned on GitHub. The release coincides with the anniversary of the title, which turned 12 years old on July 7. Developer Smartly Dressed Games explained that publishing the source code serves as a way to thank the gaming community for supporting the project over many years. The studio expects fans to contribute to the development of Unturned and create new content.

Currently, the source code is distributed under a custom license from Smartly Dressed Games that permits the creation of non-commercial projects. The studio plans to transition to an open MIT license in the future after resolving rights issues for certain components in the game. Unturned originally launched in July 2014 in early access before reaching a full release three years later. The Steam version previously peaked at over 112,000 concurrent users, and daily online figures on Valve's platform currently remain between 10,000 and 15,000 players.

Smartly Dressed Games operates with a staff of only two employees. The team consists of game developer Nelson Sexton and community manager MoltonMontro.
