At the Tokyo Game Show, I had hands-on time with Un:Me, a new 'soul triage adventure' from Historia Inc. and SHUEISHA GAMES. The game blends horror elements with deep narrative design, creating an experience that feels genuinely distinct from other titles in the genre.

Un:Me places you in control of a young woman haunted by four souls, each seeking to claim her body. Your task is to determine which one is the true soul by exploring the world, gathering clues, and engaging in probing conversations with these ghostly personas. The game presents jump scares and unsettling visuals, including terrifying nurse-like entities with unnatural smiles, but its core appeal lies in its psychological depth.

What sets Un:Me apart is how each soul manifests through the protagonist's body. When a particular soul takes control, the character's movements, behavior, mannerisms, and even vocal cadence change distinctly. A single voice actor performs all four souls, making these shifts feel cohesive yet varied. The conversations themselves echo the interrogation mechanics of LA Noire, where studying facial expressions and reactions becomes critical to deducing which soul is genuine.

During the demo, players were prompted with questions like 'What can you remember about your family?' and 'Tell me about your deepest wishes,' creating an investigative rhythm that builds tension. The environment reinforces this unease, and souls can wrest control unexpectedly, altering your perspective mid-exploration. The demo concluded with a choice to eliminate one soul, hinting at a progressive elimination system and multiple possible endings based on player deductions.

Un:Me is scheduled to launch on Steam in 2027 and is available to wishlist now. The game's approach to blending horror atmosphere with narrative-driven character assessment suggests a fresh take on psychological thriller mechanics.
