Hyperfocus Games CEO Sam Vallely released the first gameplay footage of Ultra Pro Wrestling on September 5, fulfilling a promise made earlier that month to show the game before the end of September. The studio uploaded a video titled "UPW Showcase 2026" to the game's official YouTube channel, featuring a 1v1 match captured directly from a development build.

The footage included a walkthrough of the game's menu system, various match types, in-game options and settings, and live gameplay. The release came after Vallely acknowledged in prior interviews that a playable build existed, though development had focused on stabilizing core features. He noted during a YouTube appearance that tag team matches might still experience crashes.

Ultra Pro Wrestling has faced significant development challenges over the years. Insider Gaming previously uncovered reports of prolonged development struggles and what sources described as mismanagement. That investigation also surfaced evidence of animations and code that appeared closely similar to classic AKI wrestling titles like WWF No Mercy and WCW/nWo Revenge, raising questions about asset reuse.

In the Discord community, Vallely had indicated that substantial work remained to demonstrate even a basic 1v1 match. On September 20, he noted he was "just fixing some audio stuff," suggesting the showcase release was imminent. The video arrived hours before the end-of-month deadline he had set.

The gameplay reveal marks a turning point after years with minimal public updates. Whether the footage addresses previous concerns about the game's development trajectory and borrowed assets remains to be seen. The community response will likely shape expectations for further updates and an eventual full release.
