Ubisoft's Steam Release of Heroes of Might & Magic 3 Launches Without Actual Game Files

Ubisoft has faced significant backlash following the Steam release of the original Heroes of Might & Magic 3, which arrived on the platform complete with its expansions, Armageddon's Blade and The Shadow of Death. Previously, the only way to acquire the strategy classic on Steam was via a 2015 HD rerelease that lacked expansions and the random map generator, prompting fans to recommend the GOG version instead.

However, players who paid $10 for the newly listed original version quickly discovered that the installation size is only 23.49 KB. Attempting to launch the software results in a "dummy executable" error message because the release was shipped without the actual game files. Consequently, the user review rating for the title plummeted to 80% negative shortly after launch.

While it is expected that the oversight will be corrected once publishers address the missing data, players seeking a reliable PC experience continue to point to the complete edition on GOG as the alternative choice.
