Twitch is building a new Recaps Feed for persistent highlight reels
Twitch chief executive officer Dan Clancy announced plans for a new Recaps Feed that turns livestream clips into persistent highlight reels.

Twitch is developing a new feature called the Recaps Feed, which is designed to turn livestream clips into persistent highlight reels that help viewers discover creators. Twitch chief executive officer Dan Clancy shared details about the upcoming feed during an interview with GamesBeat at the Tokyo Game Show 2026. The tool enables creators to select between five and eight clips at the conclusion of a broadcast, automatically generating a highlight reel that summarizes the stream.
Previously, creators who wanted to produce highlight reels or stream summaries had to hire dedicated videographers or assistants. Clancy described the Recaps Feed as an evolution of the platform's existing Stories feed, which launched in 2023 to let creators share time-limited photos, text, and video clips. The Stories feed currently includes Stream Recaps, featuring top clips identified by Twitch. According to Clancy, the overwhelming majority of Stories content is already generated using this clipping tool.
The primary distinction between the Stories feed and the new Recaps Feed is the shift from individual temporary clips to pre-packaged, persistent highlight reels. By combining multiple clips into a single video that can be algorithmically recommended to viewers who do not follow the creator, the feed will function as a discovery channel. Clancy did not confirm an exact launch date, but stated the feature will debut in the coming weeks. The reels will live on permanently, allowing users to view summaries from weeks or even a year later.
The development addresses the rise of short-form video and clipping culture, where advertisers pay smaller accounts to distribute clips across social platforms. Deloitte’s March 2025 Digital Media Trends survey reported that 52 percent of respondents use social media as their primary way to discover new entertainment content. Furthermore, 44 percent of fans discover content on social media before watching or purchasing the full version elsewhere. Twitch is currently working to raise the value of its homegrown clips for brands and advertisers, aiming to help creators easily deliver sponsored content to larger portions of their audience.
Historically, Twitch deprioritized clipping tools and feed products, viewing short-form video as a competitor to long-form livestreams. However, as short-form video captures more attention, Twitch is positioning its livestreams as a source of authentic short-form content. Clancy noted that while other feeds are increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence, Twitch clips offer unpolished, genuine moments that viewers know really happened.
