Devs Who Spent Five Years Making 'Twisted Tower' Can't Believe Its Steam Reviews

Developer Thomas Brush and a small team spent five years creating the BioShock-inspired horror shooter Twisted Tower, which is now nearing an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rating on Steam.

Developer Thomas Brush and a small team spent five years crafting Twisted Tower, a horror shooter inspired by BioShock. Upon release, the developers held notably low expectations for the project's commercial success, with Brush admitting he genuinely expected the title to flop and would have been completely satisfied with a "Mostly Positive" user score.

Despite initial doubts, Twisted Tower is rapidly approaching Steam's coveted "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating. According to platform rules, games that reach 500 reviews with a 95 percent positive ratio receive the prestigious designation. The game currently holds 421 Steam reviews, maintaining a steady 95 percent positive score. Maintaining this exact ratio through 79 additional reviews will secure the gold star milestone.

Reflecting on the unexpected reception, Brush shared his surprise on social media, noting that his initial goal months prior was simply to avoid releasing something embarrassing. In a launch celebration video, Brush described Twisted Tower as a love letter to BioShock, Willy Wonka, and mascot horror, characterizing the experience as a creepy, action-heavy adventure reminiscent of Willy Wonka meeting a dark Disney World atmosphere.
