TinyBuild Reveals Deeper Gameplay and Narrative for Medieval Shooter Kingmakers
A new deep dive video for Kingmakers shows off the game's story elements, base-building mechanics, and high-tech weaponry.

Publisher TinyBuild has released a new gameplay deep dive for its upcoming action-strategy title Kingmakers, revealing a much more ambitious scope than previously shown. Developed by Redemption Road Games, the title features a modern-day soldier who travels back in time to medieval England to save humanity from extinction. The new video introduces narrative elements to the game, showing the protagonist explaining his mission to the daughter of an English king as he attempts to cut off a branch of history to prevent a future apocalypse.
While early trailers focused primarily on the chaotic premise of introducing guns to medieval combat, the latest footage details the game's underlying loop. Players cannot simply eliminate their targets immediately. Instead, they must establish an outpost, gather resources, and construct a castle from an overhead strategy perspective before defending it in close-quarters combat. Captured gold and valuable items can be sent back to the modern era, allowing allies to send increasingly powerful equipment through time. This arsenal includes shotguns, machine guns, bazookas, motorcycles, cars, and tanks.
Kingmakers is being built using a custom version of Unreal Engine 4. This technology allows the game to render hundreds or thousands of soldiers simultaneously during massive battles. Players will start by commanding small groups of peasants before eventually overseeing massive medieval armies, fighting alongside them on the ground using modern firearms. The project originally began development under co-creators and brothers Ian Fisch and Paul Fisch, who worked on the title for five years before TinyBuild discovered the project, providing additional funding and development staff.
The gameplay reveal occurred during the latest TinyBuild Connect digital showcase. Along with Kingmakers, TinyBuild highlighted several other projects, including The Lift, Graveyard Keeper 2, Hozy, Of Ash & Steel, and SAND: Raiders of Sophi. Kingmakers does not yet have a confirmed launch date, but the game is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
