The Witcher 4 is Targeting a 2028 Release Window, CD Projekt RED Announces

Ahead of Gamescom, CD Projekt RED Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski has announced that The Witcher 4 is currently targeting a 2028 release window, though the studio has not yet shared an exact launch date. Described by leadership as the studio's biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date, the upcoming title promises a deep and impactful story. Development is underway for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, alongside a technical demo video previously shown for the PS5 platform. Despite the 2028 target window, the studio has confirmed that the game will not be making an appearance at Gamescom.

While The Witcher 4 will skip the convention floor, CD Projekt RED has a substantial presence planned for Gamescom centered on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past. The studio is scheduled to debut the first trailer for the expansion at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25th. Furthermore, a full look at the expansion, including new content and a taste of its dark story, will be hosted at the developer's Gamescom booth. Fans can also look forward to additional coverage during REDstreams running from August 26th through August 30th, which may feature further surprises. Songs of the Past itself is slated for a 2027 launch.

Addressing the wait for The Witcher 4, Nowakowski acknowledged that fans would love to play the game sooner, asking the community to let the team take their time to ensure it is worth the wait. Though the main sequel is absent from this year's Gamescom schedule, studio statements suggest that future events in the coming years will incorporate the franchise as development progresses.
