The Witcher 3: Remastered Announced As Free Upgrade Launching This September

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, CD Projekt Red officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered. The surprise reveal concluded with the announcement that the remastered version is arriving for free for players who already own the game on platforms including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, GOG, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, with a release date slated for September 29, 2026. The new version is also available for pre-purchase on Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2.

The reveal trailer showcased a wide array of improvements, featuring massively updated visuals, enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviours, a skill tree revamp, new finishers, and an expanded photo mode. Additionally, Xbox Play Anywhere support was teased during the presentation. The package includes both the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions.

Alongside the remastered announcement, footage was shown for a new Songs of the Past expansion scheduled for release in 2027. While the initial reveal detailed many of the upcoming enhancements, specific details regarding exact access conditions—such as how physical editions will be handled—have not yet been fully outlined by publishers.
