Lead writer Marcin Blacha recently stated that The Witcher 3 is not an untouchable monument and can still be improved. Speaking with PC Gamer ahead of the upcoming remaster and the Songs of the Past expansion, Blacha explained that he still finds places in the massive role-playing game that he would handle differently today. Having over a decade of hindsight allows the developer to see what could have been done more efficiently.

Alongside a sizable graphical update, the 11-year-old game is receiving a new expansion titled Songs of the Past. Blacha described the development process as creatively invigorating. He noted that adding a new expansion is not a massive hurdle and provides an uplifting feeling that acts like a time machine taking him back ten years.

The upcoming expansion also revives cut concepts from the original development cycle. Specifically, the chain weapon utilized by Geralt in Songs of the Past was an original idea for the base game that the team previously could not figure out in time. CD Projekt Red has also noted that the new expansion would not be possible without the remaster, stating that the stars had to align.

Both additions aim to provide a decent amount of changes to the classic role-playing game while helping players pass the time while waiting for The Witcher 4.
