Upcoming DCU Show 'The People v. Gorilla Grodd' Begins Filming

Production on the upcoming DCU series The People v. Gorilla Grodd is officially underway. Just over two weeks after James Gunn announced that the project had been greenlit, the series has already started filming at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Leaked set photos shared by a student on TikTok reveal banners for Metropolis University, indicating that the production is fully embracing its university setting.

Gunn previously shared on Twitter that the Jimmy Olsen-centered series is moving forward at HBO. Framed as a true-crime mockumentary, the eight-part series is directed by Daily Planet reporter Jimmy Olsen. According to an in-universe bulletin from The Daily Planet, the project will take a look at the case surrounding Grodd, who was imprisoned for the murder and brain consumption of his father, King Grodd. Leaked images from the set also featured a newspaper dated Friday, November 3, 1989, suggesting Olsen may visit university professors to investigate the super monkey's abilities.

Gorilla Grodd, who first appeared in DC Comics in 1959 as a Flash antagonist, gained his hyper-intelligence and mind-control abilities from exposure to a space rock. The cast features Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Jimmy Tatro as Gorilla Grodd, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White. An official release date for The People v. Gorilla Grodd has not yet been announced by HBO.
