The Last of Us Season 3 Might Be the Final Season, Says HBO Boss

HBO boss Casey Bloys indicates that The Last of Us television series may conclude after its third season.

The television adaptation of The Last of Us could conclude with its third season. HBO boss Casey Bloys addressed speculation regarding the show's future in an interview with Deadline. When asked whether the third season would be the final one, Bloys stated that showrunner Craig Mazin has planned it as the final season.

The first season of the show covered the events of the original video game across nine episodes. The second season adapts the first half of The Last of Us Part 2, focusing on Ellie's side of the narrative. Season 3 is expected to focus on Abby's perspective, which comprises the second half of the game. Previously, composer Jake Staley mentioned on a podcast that there would be at least two more seasons following the announcement of season 3.

Season 3 of the television series is currently expected to premiere on HBO in 2027. Further details regarding how the remaining narrative material will be adapted to conclude the series have not been officially finalized.
