Naughty Dog is kicking off The Last of Us Day celebrations with a free PS5 theme available now through the console's Welcome Hub. The theme marks the first time a Last of Us background has been added to the Hub's Games tab.

The design features Ellie from both games standing opposed to each other. The younger Ellie appears with Joel on her shoulder, while the older version includes Abby, the deuteragonist from The Last of Us Part 2. Players can download the theme by logging into their PlayStation account and navigating to the Change Background menu.

The September 28th celebration will include a livestream on Naughty Dog's official Twitch channel. According to the studio, the event will feature "a partnership announcement, a very cool collaboration, digital surprises, and more." The livestream will also support the No Return charity.

The Last of Us launched on PS3 on June 14th, 2013, followed by a remastered PS4 version on June 29th, 2014. The original game centers on smuggler Joel escorting a young girl named Ellie across a post-apocalyptic United States after a massive outbreak. Ellie appears immune to the infection, potentially holding the key to a cure. The Last of Us Part 2 arrived in 2020, set four years later in Jackson City, Wyoming, where Joel and Ellie's relationship has become strained. Both The Last of Us Part 1 and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered are currently available on PS5 and PC.
