Classic 1986 MSX Game The Goonies is Getting an Amiga Port

An in-development Amiga port of the classic 1986 MSX game The Goonies is currently being created to celebrate the upcoming 40th anniversary.

A new homebrew project is bringing the iconic 1986 MSX game The Goonies to the Commodore Amiga. Created as a heartfelt Amiga tribute to honor the game approaching its 40th anniversary, the project is designed exclusively for the Commodore Amiga using the Scorpion Engine. The port aims to blend rapid action, nostalgic platforming, and arcade excitement while making use of the classic computer hardware strengths.

When finished, the game is expected to feature hardware-driven multi-directional scrolling, colorful maps, large detailed sprites, and an upbeat soundtrack. The development is a personal project intended to build a bridge between the MSX and Amiga platforms. Many elements, including the graphics, levels, music, and gameplay systems, are still evolving, and several features remain experimental or incomplete.

A team of contributors is supporting the development. Luis Carlos Zardo is creating tilesets, Paulo Amaweks is handling sprites, and Marlox is contributing additional graphics. Music for the project is being produced by Esau and Maktone. The current update is AGA only for now, with an OCS version planned to follow later. The project has been tested on real A1200 hardware as well as emulators like Win-UAE and FS-UAE.
