THE FINALS Launches New Chapter October 20 with Destruction Overhaul and Sponsor Rework
Embark Studios is bringing substantial changes to THE FINALS on October 20, marking a shift in how the multiplayer shooter handles environmental destruction, arena design, and sponsor relationships. The update represents months of deeper development work

Embark Studios will launch a new chapter of THE FINALS on October 20, introducing significant systems changes across destruction, arenas, and sponsors. Executive producer Christian Aarsrud explained in a blog post that the studio opted for an extended development runway this year rather than its standard three-month seasonal cycle, allowing work on larger, more complex systems.
"That longer runway allowed us to take on work that doesn't fit inside a three-month cycle," Aarsrud wrote. "With it we have been able to go deeper on existing parts of the game while also investing in larger, more complex systems that need more time to get right."
The destruction system receives the most substantial overhaul. Environmental degradation will now happen gradually, with floors sagging, walls leaning, and buildings collapsing in more varied ways rather than immediate destruction. This approach aims to add nuance to how players interact with destructible environments during matches.
Arena updates include improved lighting and materials to enhance visual quality. Embark is also making broader design changes to how each arena plays, suggesting rebalancing across multiple maps.
Sponsor mechanics are being repositioned as a core gameplay element rather than a passive progression system. Embark wants to strengthen the relationship between players and their chosen sponsors at the start of each season, giving that relationship "identity, personality and purpose." The studio is also reworking how contestants, teams, and arenas are introduced, along with how the game show itself looks and unfolds during play.
The October 20 update comes as THE FINALS approaches its third anniversary. The multiplayer shooter has seen renewed player interest in recent months, with the player count hitting a 10-month high during Season 11.
