Team Ninja Details Upcoming Nioh 3: Hell Rising DLC

Developer Team Ninja is preparing to launch “Hell Rising,” the first of two planned DLC expansions for its action-RPG Nioh 3. The upcoming downloadable content is scheduled to release on August 19 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.

In an interview with RPG Site, Team Ninja project manager Kohei Shibata, director Masaki Fujita, and level design lead Atsushi Takahashi shared insights into the development and reception of the title. The developers discussed how the team approached community feedback following the game's initial launch, as well as the new weapon styles being introduced in the upcoming expansion. Additionally, the creators highlighted the historical significance of the Keian Era in Japanese history, which serves as a key setting for the narrative.

Nioh 3 originally released in the first half of the year, adapting an open-field formula to the franchise's established combat mechanics and character customization systems. With “Hell Rising” arriving this week, the studio continues to expand on the base game's foundation before releasing the second planned DLC.
