Massive Morrowind Mod Tamriel Rebuilt Releases Poison Song Expansion
The massive Morrowind modding project Tamriel Rebuilt has launched its Poison Song expansion, introducing the Orethan Fields region along with quests to join Great House Indoril and the Temple Ordinators.
The massive Morrowind modding project Tamriel Rebuilt has released its latest update, the Poison Song expansion. Tamriel Rebuilt is a long-running project dedicated to adding the Morrowind province's mainland to the Vvardenfell-centric map of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Released over the weekend, the Poison Song expansion introduces the scenic Orethan Fields region, located on the outskirts of Mournhold, the Dunmer capital featured in the base game's Tribunal DLC.
According to developers, the Orethan Fields offer a distinct visual change of pace from the rocky and dusty environments typically found outside Vvardenfell's coasts. Inspired by Japanese aesthetics, the new locale features posh estates, manicured greenery, and cherry blossom trees alongside the settlement of Othrenis and the chapel of Nanaav. In addition to geographical expansions, the update revamps the Red Mountain-ravaged Sundered Scar region and improves quests situated in the Imperial-dominated city of Old Ebonheart.
Poison Song delivers substantial gameplay additions, most notably allowing players to finally join Great House Indoril. Modders have crafted a dedicated questline for the faction comparable in scope to the three joinable houses found in the base game. Players can begin this path by interacting with Indoril Sandil, the keeper of the chapel of Gorne, whose narrative explores themes concerning Ashlander heresies and the fragmented state of the Indoril house following the Armistice.
Additionally, the expansion allows players to join Morrowind's golden-masked lawkeepers, the Temple Ordinators. There are three distinct orders of Ordinators available. The Order of Doctrine operates within the Orethan Fields and focuses on orthodoxy and heresy. Meanwhile, players heading to Almas Thirr can join the Order of the Watch—which features missions regarding a conflict between House Indoril and House Hlaalu—or the Order of War, designed to help players prepare for main quest battles against Dagoth Ur.
Looking ahead, the Tamriel Rebuilt development team outlined plans for future updates. Developer Sultan of Rum shared that the team's next release will be Wealth Beyond Measure, which serves as the final expansion in the Hlaalu arc and will feature the southwestern quadrant of Morrowind alongside the metropolis of Kragenmoor. Level design for that expansion is mostly complete, while subsequent plans point toward a House-Redoran-themed expansion focused on Morrowind's northwest. Players interested in experiencing Poison Song can download the expansion through Nexus Mods or GOG, provided they own a copy of Morrowind alongside all its official DLCs.
