Japan-Exclusive Super Famicom Title 'Super Bomberman: Panic Bomber W' Makes Its Way West, 31 Years After Its Original Launch
Super Bomberman: Panic Bomber W is heading West for the first time via a free update for the Super Bomberman Collection.
Thirty-one years after its initial Japanese release on the Super Famicom, the puzzle title Super Bomberman: Panic Bomber W is officially making its way to Western players. The release arrives courtesy of a free update for the Super Bomberman Collection, which is now live across multiple platforms.
Originally launched in 1995 and based on the earlier PC Engine Super CD-ROM² falling-block puzzle game, Panic Bomber W is a competitive puzzle game designed for one to four players. Players drop different-colored blocks inspired by the Bomberman series to attack opponents using spectacular chain reactions and Big Bombs triggered by filling a meter. Konami has also added a selection of music tracks from the game to the Super Bomberman Collection's BOMB Radio feature, allowing players to listen to the soundtrack independently.
The free update went live on August 20, 2026, and applies to all versions of the Super Bomberman Collection across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. According to Konami's website, *Panic Bomber W* marks the third Japanese-exclusive title brought to Western audiences as part of the compilation, following previous regional exclusives like Super Bomberman 4 and Super Bomberman 5. The compilation also includes Super Bomberman, Super Bomberman 2, Super Bomberman 3, Bomberman, and Bomberman II.
Physical versions of the Super Bomberman Collection are planned for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, with pre-orders available through Red Art Games.
