SteelSeries Launches $260 Aeon Pro Dual-System Controller for Xbox and PC

SteelSeries has officially stepped into the controller market with the launch of the Aeon Pro, a premium, feature-rich gamepad built specifically for Xbox and PC. Priced at $259.99 / £229.99 (or €260), it is among the most expensive pro-level controllers on the market. Despite its high price tag, reviewers note that the controller introduces unique innovations borrowed from the company's headset lines to stand out in a crowded high-end hardware space.

The standout feature of the Aeon Pro is its dual-battery hot-swapping system, adapted from SteelSeries' Arctis Nova Pro headsets. The controller ships with two batteries that last roughly 12 hours each. While one powers the gamepad, the spare charges directly inside an included wireless base station. According to tests, swapping out a depleted battery takes only seconds, allowing users to achieve virtually limitless battery life. The base station also functions as a dual-system dock equipped with separate USB ports, letting users connect both an Xbox console and a PC simultaneously and switch between them seamlessly without re-pairing.

Hardware-wise, the Aeon Pro features Hall Effect joysticks and triggers for longevity, alongside clicky microswitches for the face buttons and four non-removable rear paddles. At the top of the controller sits an integrated monochrome OLED screen. This screen enables on-device customization—such as swapping connected systems, changing profiles, remapping keys, and adjusting haptic strength—without requiring external software, though the SteelSeries GG app provides deeper configuration options like individual trigger and stick response curves. The dock also includes magnetic storage holders for replacement thumbstick tops.

While reviewers have praised the controller's robust build quality, tactile feedback, and innovative base station, its steep cost remains a major hurdle. Critics point out that it faces stiff competition from alternative high-end and mid-range options, and some express disappointment over the lack of an included zip-up carrying case or compatibility with PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.
