Steam Overhauling Discount System With Personalized Recommendations Starting Early 2027
Steam is replacing its manual, calendar-based discount structure with a dynamic system tailored to individual players. The change aims to surface more discounted games and make sales events more discoverable.

Steam has announced plans to overhaul how discounts and sale events work on the platform, moving away from a fixed calendar approach to a personalized system launching in early 2027.
The shift marks a significant change to how players discover deals. Currently, Steam uses curated sections for Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals, and Daily Deals. The company will suspend scheduling new curated placements in the Discounts & Events section, with the calendar system ending sometime early next year.
Steam's development team has spent recent months testing dynamic and personalized recommendations to match games with buyers. In these experiments, replacing curated sections with algorithmic recommendations showed promising results. The team discovered they could display 10 times more games to buyers in a single day. The change also increased page visits, wishlists, and items added to shopping carts.
The transition aims to make a wider variety of discounted games and sale events more easily discoverable for each player. Rather than everyone seeing the same featured deals, the system will adapt recommendations based on individual preferences and behavior.
Developers will receive new and updated tools to manage their discounts and sale events as part of the rollout. Steam has not announced a specific implementation date beyond the early 2027 timeframe, as development continues.
