Stars Reach Shifts Focus to Growth and Features, Says Developer
Playable Worlds CEO Raph Koster outlined plans to move beyond reactive development, prioritizing new features and player acquisition for the early access sandbox game.

Stars Reach developer Playable Worlds is charting a new course for the early access sandbox, with CEO Raph Koster announcing a shift away from reactive problem-solving toward intentional growth and feature development.
During a recent Fireside Chat dev stream, Koster acknowledged the reality that the game needs to attract more players to its early access community. "It's time to start getting out of reaction mode, basically, and into" a more proactive approach, he said, signaling the studio's commitment to balancing urgent fixes with the long-term roadmap.
The statement reflects a common challenge in early access development, where teams often spend resources responding to immediate issues rather than pursuing planned features. By pledging to "pay attention to growth" and focus on "features, not just fires," Koster indicated that Playable Worlds intends to dedicate development time to both attracting new players and delivering the content needed to retain them.
Stars Reach remains in early access as a player-driven sandbox title. The shift in development priorities suggests the studio is preparing for a broader audience as the game matures.
