StarCraft Shooter Won't Be Destiny-Like, Says Jason Schreier
Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier has ruled out the upcoming StarCraft game being a live-service shooter in the style of Destiny, though details about the actual gameplay direction remain unclear ahead of BlizzCon.

Reports about an upcoming StarCraft game have intensified following news that Korean developer-publisher Nexon acquired development rights to a sequel in the sci-fi franchise. Visual glitches on the official StarCraft 2 website have fueled speculation about an imminent announcement.
According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, the next StarCraft game will not follow Destiny's live-service shooter formula. "I wouldn't count on this StarCraft game being a Destiny-like, I'll say that," Schreier said during a recent conversation with former Polygon guides producer Ryan Gilliam.
The revelation surprised some observers who hoped for another well-funded Destiny competitor. It's also notable that Blizzard, known for developing successful live-service games, appears not to be making one in this case.
Windows Central editor Jez Corden suggested the StarCraft project may draw inspiration from Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and the Far Cry series. "From what I saw it's more Space Marine 2 / Far Cry kinda adjacent, but dunno for sure what the overall gameplay formula will be," Corden wrote on X. The Far Cry reference aligns with earlier reports that former Far Cry director Dan Hay is leading a StarCraft shooter at Blizzard, though Space Marine 2 and Far Cry share limited gameplay similarities.
Blizzard is expected to reveal the game during BlizzCon, scheduled for September 12-13, with the opening ceremony as the likely announcement venue.
