Star Citizen Crowdfunding Crosses One Billion Dollars Following New Ship Pre-Sales
Cloud Imperium Games has raised over one billion dollars for Star Citizen through crowdfunding, aided by recent pre-sales for a new ship.

The crowdfunding campaign for Star Citizen has reached a total of $1,004,122,732 according to the Roberts Space Industries website. This funding has been contributed by 6.54 million people to developer Cloud Imperium Games. The milestone coincided with the pre-sales launch of the Anvil Odin, a new ship priced at $5,000 that remains in development and cannot yet be flown by players.
Purchasing the Anvil Odin requires interested gamers to join the Odin Founders Club and submit an essay explaining their reasons for buying the ship. Cloud Imperium Games began working on Star Citizen in 2010. The full release date for the space simulator remains unknown, though it is suggested to occur within two years after the release of the story-driven spin-off Squadron 42. Studio head Chris Roberts reports that Squadron 42 is in its final stages and could debut in the near future.
