Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl Gets 2.0 Update and Cost of Hope Expansion on August 20

GSC Game World has announced the upcoming release of Update 2.0 for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, scheduled to launch on August 20. The major upgrade will be completely free for every owner of the game and features a new version of the engine alongside a comprehensive graphics overhaul designed to modernize the experience.

The Visual Evolution Update 2.0 drastically improves the Zone’s lighting, delivering more realistic shadows and reflections across both indoor environments and underground locations. In addition, landscapes and foliage have been reworked to make the environment feel more organic. The update also brings significant improvements to the A-Life system, creating more believable activity and encounters. Players will encounter more contested points of interest—such as campfires and bus stops—where stalkers and mutants can cross paths, while under-the-hood fixes address previous issues like enemies shooting or throwing objects through walls.

To tailor the experience further, Update 2.0 introduces Custom Rules, which let players adjust individual settings to create anything from a forgiving survival experience to a rigorous hardcore challenge. For scouting, three new types of binoculars have been added and can be found throughout the Zone or purchased from traders. The arsenal also expands with four new weapons: the Arev assault rifle, GP3A and SKP designated marksman rifles, and the Fora-230 submachine gun, accompanied by new optics like a Western-bloc x3 scope and an Eastern-bloc red dot sight. Furthermore, fog is now a functional gameplay mechanic reducing visibility and hearing for both players and enemies, and a new Statistics page has been added to the PDA.

Launching on the exact same day, August 20, is the first major expansion for the game, titled Cost of Hope. This paid content explores the enduring conflict between the Duty and Freedom factions. Players will venture into new locations including the Iron Forest, CNPP, and Spatial Bubble. The expansion will be included as part of the Ultimate Edition of the base game or available as a standalone purchase for $30 USD/EUR, subject to regional pricing. Alongside the release, GSC Game World has launched a dedicated quiz website allowing players to vote for their chosen faction and compete for exclusive prizes.
