Textured and chunky roguelike deckbuilder Stack Order gets a Steam demo

A new roguelike deckbuilder called Stack Order has been highlighted for its distinct graphic novel art style, which evokes the feel of a trendy French comic book shop. Unlike traditional deckbuilders that often focus entirely on the individual effects of single cards, Stack Order revolves around layering and stacking cards together in designated casting zones so that they can work in tandem to maximize their overall impact.

Within the casting zone, players manage specific fields dedicated to defense cards, offense cards, and ability cards. Because opponents' upcoming actions are always visible, players must carefully strategize how to stack their cards in response. For instance, loading a defense zone with armor-netting cards prevents incoming damage, but the trade-off is that no offensive damage will be dealt during that round. Conversely, focusing entirely on an offensive stack leaves players vulnerable if they fail to eliminate the threat on that turn. Every decision feeds into the next, allowing players to utilize mechanics such as offense cards that deal an extra point of damage for every card activated before them in a pile, or planning ahead by adding cards to a stack without playing the entire stack on the current turn.

Beyond its deep strategic mechanics, Stack Order has drawn praise for its visual presentation. The title features chunky line art, character designs carrying an *Adventure Time*-esque whimsy, simple card art, and battle animations reminiscent of the *Zelda* CD-i games.
