Square Enix Exploring Final Fantasy Collaborations, But No Fortnite News Yet

Square Enix is actively exploring potential collaborations across various intellectual property assets as the company approaches the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Naoki Hamaguchi, the game director for Final Fantasy 7, addressed recent community speculation on social media regarding a rumored crossover with Epic Games, clarifying that no announcements are imminent.

"As we approach the launch of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, we are exploring collaborations with a variety of different IPs," Hamaguchi stated on X. He pointed to an existing partnership with Street Fighter as an initial step in that wider effort. Regarding a crossover with Fortnite specifically, Hamaguchi noted that there was nothing he could share that would raise expectations at the present time.

Despite the lack of an official Fortnite crossover announcement, Hamaguchi acknowledged that the battle royale title served as a creative reference point during development. He noted that Fortnite was certainly one of the titles that provided inspiration for the creation of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, specifically influencing the game's parachuting system.

Industry speculation surrounding a potential Final Fantasy crossover has persisted for some time, particularly as Fortnite continues to feature various gaming franchises and characters. Other Square Enix properties, such as Kingdom Hearts, are scheduled to appear in Fortnite later in the current season. While a definitive partnership for Final Fantasy has not been confirmed, Hamaguchi's comments indicate that the publisher remains open to future collaborative opportunities even if a joint project is not ready to be revealed.
