Sony Reaffirms Console-Exclusive Strategy With New 'Only On PS5' Ad
Sony released a new advertisement emphasizing its return to console-exclusive single-player titles, showcasing both released and upcoming PS5 games without PC availability.
Sony has released a new 30-second advertisement promoting its PS5 games, reaffirming a shift back toward console-exclusive releases for single-player titles. The ad features a mix of previously released and upcoming games, signaling that the company does not currently plan to bring these titles to PC.
Among the showcased titles are Ghost of Yōtei, Astro Bot, Saros, and Gran Turismo 7—all of which have remained exclusive to PlayStation platforms despite Sony's earlier expansion to other platforms. Upcoming exclusives highlighted in the ad include Marvel’s Wolverine and God of War Laufey, further indicating Sony's intent to keep major single-player releases off PC for the foreseeable future.
While Sony has not entirely abandoned multiplatform releases, particularly for multiplayer games, the ad notably includes Gran Turismo 7, a title with online components that has not been released on PC. Recent multiplayer titles such as Marathon have launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, while Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls was released only on PC and PS5. Horizon Hunters Gathering is also slated for simultaneous release on PC and PS5, suggesting some flexibility remains for certain titles.
Earlier reports suggested that Ghost of Yōtei may have been considered for PC release, but sources familiar with the company's plans indicated that a faction within PlayStation opposed such a move. This internal disagreement appears to have influenced the cancellation of any PC port plans for the title.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has expressed similar sentiments regarding exclusivity, announcing that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will only be available on PC and Xbox Series X/S. However, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma noted that the company is taking a gradual approach, with upcoming titles like Fable still planned for PS5. She emphasized that releasing games across platforms strengthens the business, but acknowledged that the current state of the industry is not particularly healthy, leading to a cautious rollout of exclusive content.
