Skyblivion Modders Confirm No Shadow Drop, Plan Formal Release Date Reveal
The team behind the massive unofficial Oblivion remake Skyblivion has confirmed they will not shadow drop the project, opting instead to announce a formal release date once ready.
The creators behind Skyblivion have explicitly ruled out following the lead of Bethesda's official projects by suddenly releasing their massive unofficial Oblivion remake via a shadow drop. Addressing fan speculation within the project's Discord server, the mod's communications lead, Evan Flatt, firmly denied that the team would take the unannounced release route. Despite answering only to themselves rather than any traditional publishers, the modders plan to share a proper release date when the time comes.
"We will not be shadow dropping after over a decade of hard work," Flatt wrote in the server, reassuring followers that a formal announcement will precede the launch. Originally scheduled to debut last year, the project has faced delays and other setbacks. Over the first half of 2026, the modders have steadily ticked off completed aspects, such as wrapping up work on the Imperial City as the final major settlement. The team has also continued seeking additional volunteer hands to help sort out remaining tasks, including quest editing.
Given that last year's planned window fell through, the team is deliberately taking its time to ensure everything is sorted and meets the intended standard before setting the release wheels in motion once more. Without the built-in audience shock factor of an official studio release, taking the time to build anticipation through a traditional release date announcement is intended to help draw in casual observers who might not have been closely tracking the decade-long development cycle.
