Silent Hill: Townfall Will Critically Surpass Silent Hill f and 2 Remake, Says Series Producer
As Silent Hill: Townfall approaches its September 24 release, series producer Motoi Okamoto expressed confidence the survival horror title will achieve higher critical acclaim than recent entries Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill f.

Konami and developer Screen Burn are preparing for the September 24th release of Silent Hill: Townfall. Series producer Motoi Okamoto has stated in an interview with Famitsu that he believes the game will surpass recent Silent Hill entries in critical response.
"Both Silent Hill 2 and f received very high praise, and their Metacritic scores were great," Okamoto said. "I have confidence that Townfall will achieve similarly high acclaim. I have enough confidence to feel that it might end up being the masterpiece of the revival, so I have extremely high expectations."
Okamoto acknowledged that public excitement around Townfall has been more subdued compared to Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill f, likely because very little gameplay has been publicly shown. However, he pointed to positive reactions from hands-on demo players as evidence the game will perform well critically.
"Right now, it might feel a bit subdued to some people, but hearing the reactions of those who played the hands-on demo, we feel it will be evaluated very highly," Okamoto said.
The game is set in 1996 in the Scottish town of St. Amelia and features a narrative centered on themes of individuals versus corporations. Screen Burn chose the mid-90s setting deliberately to create a horror environment where the protagonist lacks modern technology like smartphones or GPS to escape danger.
"It's almost like the perfect time for horror where you don't quite have enough technology to help you," Screen Burn explained. "You don't have a smartphone. You don't have maps on your device to help you get around, but it's also not so far back that you don't have anything at all." The developer also incorporated its signature use of analog and archaic technology into Townfall's design.
Silent Hill: Townfall releases on PC and PS5 with features including ray tracing, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback on PlayStation 5. Ahead of launch, the official Silent Hill social media accounts posted a mysterious phone number, (609) 626-7242, for U.S. residents 18 and older to call.
