SEGA and Netflix Announce New Multi-Title Collaboration for Film and Television
SEGA and Netflix have announced a new multi-title collaboration that includes a live-action Crazy Taxi comedy movie, a new Sonic the Hedgehog kids animation, and a live-action crime adaptation of Stranger Than Heaven from RGG Studio.

SEGA and Netflix are teaming up once again. The duo announced a new multi-title collaboration that includes three distinct adaptations currently in development. Fans of these franchises can expect a live-action comedy movie based on Crazy Taxi, a new Sonic the Hedgehog animated series aimed at children, and a live-action crime adaptation of Stranger Than Heaven from RGG Studio.
First up in the announcement is a live-action comedy movie based on the Crazy Taxi series and its upcoming game, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, which is scheduled for release in 2027. Since its 1999 arcade debut, Crazy Taxi has put players behind the wheel of a fearless cabbie racing through city streets. The writing duo Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, known for the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun, will write the adaptation. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara are attached to produce the project.
The partnership also includes a new animated series featuring Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends. Developed with Carlos Stevens and Toru Nakahara, the high-voltage and comedic series is built for an upper pre-school audience with an emotionally grounded approach. Netflix also notes that three seasons of Sonic Prime are currently available to stream on the platform.
Finally, RGG Studio, the developer behind the Like a Dragon and Yakuza series, is expanding into a live-action crime adaptation of Stranger Than Heaven. Set in early 20th-century Japan, the story follows a foreigner who rises from a destitute stranger to a feared yakuza and entertainment tycoon against the backdrop of a changing nation. Further details for this project remain under wraps, with Toru Nakahara serving as producer.
Release dates for these upcoming projects have not yet been announced by SEGA or Netflix. The partnership joins Netflix's growing line of video game adaptations.
