s&box, the spiritual sequel to Garry's Mod from creator Garry Newman and Facepunch Studios, has received a significant character update. The game's citizen characters, previously designed without necks, now feature them by default.

Newman was candid about the motivation behind the change. "The feedback we've consistently got is that people hate them," he said of the original neckless design. "They hate everything about them."

The update introduces customization options allowing players to adjust multiple body aspects, including neck size, chest, waist, and nose proportions. Players can also modify eye colour. For those who preferred the original aesthetic, sliders allow players to remove the neck appearance entirely.

Newman expressed his personal attachment to the original design. "I love the citizen, I love how he looks, I love that he has no neck," he said. However, he emphasized that player feedback takes priority. "Of course, this isn't what 'fixes' s&box on its own, but it something that comes up consistently in our many many many negative reviews, so it's something that we are addressing along with all the other feedback we receive."

The updated citizen model also features a default non-frowning facial expression alongside the new neck option, part of the broader refinements Facepunch continues to make as the game develops.
