Bloober Team has pushed back the early-access launch of Saw: Genesis from 2026 to 2027, the horror-focused developer announced. The studio said it needs more time to bring the game to a standard it's satisfied with before players get their hands on it.

Saw: Genesis is a 3v1 asymmetrical multiplayer experience set roughly a century before the Saw films. One player takes on the role of a Jigsaw-like "Judge" who runs three others through a maze of torture devices and traps, attempting to kill them before any can escape. The three survivors can find brief windows to attack the Judge, though a skilled player controlling the Judge can maintain dominance by lurking in inaccessible corridors and activating traps strategically.

At Summer Game Fest, hands-off gameplay revealed some rough edges. The core 3v1 loop was difficult to parse, with complex puzzles for victims and best practices for the Judge remaining unclear even during extended play. Animations and visuals also appeared unpolished, suggesting work remains before the game is ready for a wider audience.

The delay makes competitive sense. Licensed multiplayer horror games have grown crowded since Dead by Daylight launched in 2016, and a poor first impression can deter players from returning. Red Barrels' Outlast Trials already occupies similar territory with an established player base. A bad debut in early access could prove more damaging than allowing additional development time.

Bloober Team has emphasized its commitment to moving beyond past projects, with the studio stating it's done making "shitty games." Whether that pledge holds will become clearer as Saw: Genesis develops over the coming months.
