Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Update 2.6 Arrives on PC via Steam Beta Access with New Game+

Developer Edelweiss is preparing to launch a major new update for Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, bringing the version number up to 2.6. Studio members Nal and Koichi revealed details of the update via social media, alongside public beta access on PC through Steam. Players can access the open beta branch by checking the Game Versions & Betas section within the game's properties, though Nal noted that developers are still waiting for the original Japanese build to be localized into other languages. A Japanese spreadsheet detailing the update's contents has also been shared.

Update 2.6 introduces several notable additions, most prominently a New Game+ mode that lets players choose specific categories—such as items or equipment—to inherit when restarting from the beginning. Other features include numerous new conversation event scenes with other characters, and the ability for Kokorowa to join meals at home. The patch also modifies several object models and presentations, adding alternate lines of dialogue after consuming poor meals. Furthermore, 100% explored regions will now display their names in blue.

The update brings new equipment outfits with distinct effects, including gear that allows players to work at double speed (though the buff is disabled if damage is taken), apparel that applies the previous year's harvest results directly to stats, and outfits that randomly alter daily abilities. Quality-of-life adjustments include an increased maximum possession limit for rice up to 9,999, a quick outfit change feature with favorite outfit registration, and PC option settings allowing users to fix button icon displays to Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch layouts. This marks another major update for the action role-playing game following previous updates, with Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin currently available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
