Facepunch Studios has released Rust's October update, introducing livestock including cows and sheep. The new animals produce multiple harvestable resources: dung, meat, bones, leather, milk from cows, and wool from sheep.

Players can now build pens to contain their animals using new fencing options. A Stable vendor allows players to sell livestock and wool harvests. The vendor relationship includes negotiation mechanics, though haggling too aggressively triggers a 15-minute cooldown before further sales are permitted.

The update introduces dairy processing. Milk can be refrigerated for up to four hours, then skimmed to produce both skimmed milk and cream. According to Facepunch, "cream is a more powerful consumable" than regular milk. Both milk and cream can be added to tea to enhance its effects.

Additional livestock resources have practical uses: raw and spoiled meat can fuel the biofuel generator. Players can also breed animals in an attempt to develop superior specimens, described by Facepunch as finding "a god clone."

Beyond livestock, the update adds smaller wildlife including squirrels, rabbits, frogs, and turtles. Facepunch noted that livestock capture mechanics "should all be pretty intuitive" but did not provide explicit instructions.
