RuneScape Reignited Launches December 2 With New Economy and Level 3 Start for All Players

Jagex has set a December 2 launch date for RuneScape Reignited, a major refresh of the long-running free-to-play MMO that aims to bring back lapsed players and give newcomers a shared starting point. The announcement came during the RuneFest 2026 Summit and was expanded in a developer blog post published on October 3, 2026.

Reignited introduces a character-based approach with an all-new economy and no paid progression systems. According to the official trailer, every Reignited player will begin at level 3 together in a world described as "25 years of RuneScape rebuilt for what comes next." The mode also eliminates treasure hunter mechanics that have been a point of contention among the community.

In the blog post, Jagex addressed players who have felt lost or left behind, as well as newer players unsure how to begin. The studio wrote: "Reignited is the culmination of everything that we have been building towards this year, and yet it is also the start of a brand new chapter." The post frames the update as an opportunity to experience the game's history from a fresh perspective, almost as if it were releasing for the first time today.

The launch includes a ten-day window of free access to members-only content for all Reignited characters starting December 2. This mirrors strategies seen in other live-service titles such as World of Warcraft Forever, which also targets returning players with a reset-style experience.

Reignited characters will exist alongside the current player base in the world of Gielinor, similar to how Ironman mode accounts operate today. Jagex emphasized that these new characters will be part of the daily experience for existing players, with the goal of seeing worlds thriving again and helping the community grow in all directions.
